Last day of teaching practice

Today was the last day of our 1st phase teaching practice. I went to my class and talked to my student. It was an emotional day, for everyone. The children and me were sad that it was the last day. I brought some sweet and presents for them. I distributed them to each of them. We took some photographs together and said goodbye at the last period. It was an unforgettable experience for me. I got a handful of memories from the school and was a wonderful experience.

8th week of teaching practice

This week started with an awareness programme. It was conducted in the school premises for the awareness on drug addiction. A skit was presented at the school ground and everyone enjoyed it. Many things happened during this last week of our teaching practice. I revised the grammar portions in my class and also provided them with the format to write and informal letter, notice and poster. Nithya teacher, Smitha teacher and me prepared and executed concsientization in class 8.F. Our topic for conscientization was Gender equality. We created chart work, made a PowerPoint presentation and took the class effectively. The final draft of blueprint for the achievement test was submitted to E. K. Jijan sir and he corrected our mistakes. On 8th and 9th February the children were taken to a trip from the school as two batches. Some of them went on 8th and the other half on 9th. Both these days there were classes. They went to Lulu mall of Trivandrum, Zoo, Mueseum, Planetarium and the Parliament. The Headmaster informed that there were many free classes and we had to be there for substitution. On 8th I took a health education class with the help of Nithya teacher and Smitha teacher. They assisted me with the chart and other materials. We went to 7 I and also 7 B to take the class. I talked to them about the importance of good health, hygiene, diet, and exercise. My topic was spiritual health. I made them aware about how spirituality can be beneficial for us and also showed them some yoga poses.

On 9th Smitha teacher, Nithya teacher and me as a group took value education in the class 7.B. Three of us had prepared 3 stories each to introduce the topic. Our topic was hard work. The children listened very actively and they shared their experience and their own views on hard work. On 10th I did an achievement test.

7th week of teaching practice

From 23rd January to 27th January I had to take leave because of a minor accident. I recovered and came back to the school on 30, Monday; a fresh week.

Some students came to see me before the assembly. They told me that there class was temporarily changed due to the model exams that are being conducted for the 10th standard students. My students were being seated at the 6th standard wing for the time being. On Monday our professor, E. K. Jijan sir came to watch my class.

This week I started a new poem  "The grandmother's house" by Kamala Surayya. The poem is about the long lost love of a grandmother ro her granddaughter. Another poem and the last chapter was "Solitude" written by Ella Wheeler Wilcox. It was a simple but elegant and meaningful poem.

6th week of teaching practice

After the annual day everybody was in a hangover. The stall was still there in the school. During the substitution periods we played a pass and pause game. The children performed their talents. They sang song, some of them danced and some even acted. There was a PTA meeting this Wednesday afternoon. I collected the notebooks to check. One of the parents met me and we had a brief talk about Chaithra, my student.

This week I was teaching "The merchant of Venice" by William Shakespeare. It was a long chapter but so interesting.

5th week of teaching practice

I took a physical education class in this week. I took the class about yoga in 6.G and also taught two simple yoga poses for the children.

1) Crescent moon pose (Urdhva Hastasana)- Crescent Moon pose deeply stretches and opens the sides of the body and improves core body strength, balance and concentration. Half moon strengthens the ankles and knees, improves circulation and energizes the entire body.

2) Chair pose (Utkadasana)- It is a strengthening and heat-building asana that brings all parts of your body together into a cohesive and powerful whole.

The second half of this week was filled with enthusiasm, energy  happiness and festivity. The school annual day was conducted on 12th and 13th of January. The school was getting ready for the programme and everybody was in a rush. There were different music being played every nook and corner of the school and practice for the cultural programmes were going on seriously. There were students dancing and practicing for the annual day in a side.

The title of the annual day was "Jubilium". We were all very busy during the annual day. We visited many classrooms and helped many of the teams to get ready for the programmes. We helped them with their makeups and costumes and we even helped them with the choreography. It was a wonderful experience. A small canteen stall was installed for the refreshments only for the annual day. Along with the children we also bought some ice cream.

4th week of teaching practise

After a short break from our first phase teaching practice, we went back to the school today. We took a break because of our exams and then came the Christmas holidays. Our staff room had been changed to a 7th standard classroom but we were given another staff room instead. Our new staff room was near the IT lab. My children welcomed me with such pleasure that I became overwhelmed. They were all happy to welcome me back and I was happy to go back too.

I introduced a new unit in this week, "Share and care".  The first chapter was a Prose by E. V. Lucas- "The school for sympathy".
